Bastrop EDC hires Cameron Cox as its new executive director

The Bastrop Economic Development Corporation has hired its attorney to serve as its executive director after the departure of Mike Kamerlander.

Cameron Cox, a senior associate with Denton, Navarro, Rocha, Bernal & Zech who had served as the BEDC’s legal counsel for about a year and a half, began his role as executive director Oct 22. Cox has resigned from the law firm and will only work as the BEDC’s executive director.

Denton, Navarro, Rocha, Bernal & Zech, which has a contract for legal services with the BEDC, will supply the corporation with a new attorney, officials said.

“Bastrop is a unique community with a rich history and a promising future,” Cox said. “I am looking forward to achieving business growth and economic successes for Bastrop’s future with the talented team at the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation.”

The BEDC conducted a nationwide search for a new head after Kamerlander resigned in June after eight months on the job to take a position as Lockhart’s director of economic development.

The search for a new executive director fielded 30 applications and the BEDC’s board interviewed five candidates: Arthur Jackson, the business and economic development director for the Austin Chamber of Commerce; Becky Nutt, an Arizona state representative who previously worked as a chamber of commerce president; David L. Carroll, Leander’s assistant city manager who oversees development services; Kevin Pearson, senior vice president for economic development at Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce; and Cox, the BEDC’s contract attorney who simultaneously served several other economic development corporations and cities.
