Bastrop has a young, highly educated, family-centered workforce. With a median age of 41, the community is vibrant and growing. Being located within the Austin Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) with close proximity to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport positions Bastrop businesses to take advantage of the area’s strong infrastructure and modern resources.

Companies in Bastrop have access to a large labor pool (1,000,000+), which includes close proximity to 6 colleges and universities, including the University of Texas and Texas State.  Bastrop EDC leadership is committed to “building a better location” with new faster zoning codes, available GIS Data planning tool, and the expansion of new shovel ready sites.

Location Advantages

The Texas Triangle is known to include main interstate highways that link Dallas, Houston and San Antonio/Austin. Looking at a map you will find Bastrop has a 30-minute easy drive to Austin via State Hwy 71, close proximity to highway I-35 north leading to Dallas and south leading to San Antonio, and close proximity to Highway I-10 east leading to Houston. The drive on Hwy 71 out of Bastrop to local Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, is considered a quick pleasant route for all air travel compared to the drive out of Austin. However, being located in the Austin MSA gives Bastrop many location advantages; for example, access to continued population growth, a highly educated workforce, and prime property ready for development and expansion.

Faster Zoning Codes

Bastrop recently passed improvement codes that make zoning and permitting easier and more efficient. This planning and development code is streamlined and user-friendly, providing clarity and flexibility for future development.  It moves away from a one-size-fits-all model to a more geographically-sensitive development standard that is authentic to Bastrop.  The code provides more localized grid zoning (micro community zoning) and is a first of its kind to Texas. It is ideal for developers and mixed and special uses.

The 263 acre Business Park is zoned commercial/industrial and has 25.513 available acres ready for development. The Business Park sits adjacent to the Union Pacific Rail Line and is surrounded by tree covered hills, lush flats and the beloved Colorado River.

Since its establishment in 1996 the Business Park quickly added a 60,000 sq. ft facility expansion for the Coghlan Group. The park has been on a steady incline, adding several reputable companies to date. Georgia-based Johnson Architectural Metal Company (JAMCo Inc.) established its Texas headquarters in the Business Park in September 2014. Elliott Electric Supply opened a new facility in 2016 and AEI Technologies opened their new facility in July 2017 to name a few.
