The first quarter of 2025 saw the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation make strong progress on several annual goals and build off successes in 2024. Additional initiatives are also in the works for the coming months. Dori Kelley, Business Attraction, Retention, and Expansion Manager, highlighted fostering communication, further development of the industrial park, and zeroing in on business retention and expansion efforts as key projects moving forward in 2025.

Fostering communication and connections

Reigniting a strong sense of partnership with and commitment to Bastrop businesses is a major goal. To foster stronger connections, Bastrop EDC hosted an inaugural business roundtable earlier this year featuring a combination of board members and representatives from 30 local businesses. A series of city updates were presented, along with information about what Bastrop EDC does and how the organization helps companies. Businesses also had an opportunity to take the floor and speak directly. Kelley said the EDC is also launching a new business-focused newsletter to share news, tips, and best practices relative to local companies.

An additional effort is furthering local partnerships with related organizations. This will include working closely with the Bastrop Chamber of CommerceWorkforce Solutions, and other local, state, and federal organizations with tools and resources local businesses can utilize with Bastrop EDC serving as a facilitator.

Building on industrial park successes

The Bastrop Economic Development Corporation is putting the spotlight on its 263-acre Business and Industrial Park in 2025. "This park is key to our future growth,” said Kelley. “We’re prioritizing development here because it opens the door for new businesses, industries, and jobs that will shape Bastrop’s economy for years to come.”

Bastrop EDC can offer incentives to businesses locating in the park and is strategizing the types of businesses best suited to fill vacancies in the remaining 100 acres. Recruitment efforts will focus on companies aligning with the community's strengths and providing annual wages of $55,000 and above. High-growth industries, such as aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and life sciences, are particularly attractive for both their higher wages and economic diversification.
Beautification efforts are also on the agenda to enhance the park experience for existing tenants – including two USA headquarters, a global art studio and foundry, and more.

Expanding business retention and growth efforts

Throughout 2025, Bastrop EDC will further market a revolving loan fund created in partnership with Roscoe Bank. The retention tool provides local businesses with an upper hand when they require financing for equipment upgrades, expansions, and other needs that a microloan can cover. Kelley said the revolving loan fund offers the financing local businesses need with very little red tape in return.

Addressing unmet needs

An additional focus area for 2025 is growing retail development and addressing unmet needs in the community, such as family entertainment, retail clothing, and grocery stores. Kelley said some big names are already coming online, such as a Sprouts opening next year, but there will be an ongoing focus on bringing in businesses to fill other gaps, particularly in newer retail and mixed-use developments.

Workforce development

The Bastrop EDC actively partners with the local school districts to strengthen and expand career and technical education (CTE) programs. By connecting businesses, educators, and training providers around the evolving needs of our community, Bastrop is building a skilled, ready workforce that aligns with the demands of current employers and future industries.
