Current Projects
Austin Regional Clinic - Bastrop is one of the fastest-growing communities in Central Texas. The city’s growth has been on the radar of Austin Regional Clinic (ARC) for several years, as patients and staff alike have voiced their desire for a location closer to home.
After careful study, ARC’s leadership chose a convenient location off SH 71 and FM 304 and made plans for a new state-of-the-art facility. Though the pandemic and extreme weather delayed construction, opening is now slated for the fall of 2021.
Technology Drive Extension - In order to bring the Bastrop Business and Industrial Park into compliance with the City of Bastrop’s development regulations, this project provides a second ingress and egress route to and from the Business Park. In addition, the project provides 10.5 +/- acres of additional shovel-ready sites.
Through a separate project, the EDC is working toward constructing an additional regional detention pond to assist in controlling flows into Gills Branch. Both projects are to be performed simultaneously, at an estimated cost of $1.6 million.
Extension of the walking trail along Chestnut/Loop 150, helping to connect residential to retail, and completing the first phase of a plan to utilize the frontage road bridge on Highway 71 to form a “looped” trail. This will, in essence, extend the Riverwalk trail and make it a complete loop, which is something that Bastrop residents have been requesting for many years. The City and BEDC have completed their portion of the trail, and the Texas Department of Transportation will tie into in as part of the SH-71 bridge project.
921 Main Street - The lot has been empty since a fire destroyed the building in 2003. In 2016, due to damage sustained by the neighboring buildings, the Bastrop EDC Board approved purchasing the lot in order to remediate the damage and determine the future use of the lot. Remediation was completed in March 2019. The EDC moved forward with obtaining a loan to construct on a building on the space.
On August 8, 2019, it was announced that the Art Institute of Austin would be leasing the completed building from the BEDC, as part of a larger project involving New Republic Studios and the Lost Pines Art Center.
The project was completed in December 2020 and the Art Institute began moving in. In person classes started over the Summer of 2021.
Agnes Street Extension - As part of a Performance Agreement with Seton Family of Hospitals, the EDC has agreed to construct an extension of Agnes Street from SH 304 to the eastern property line of the Bastrop Grove subdivision.
The EDC budgeted in FY 2018 to issue $1.2 million in debt to construct the northern two lanes of a four-lane divided roadway, multi-modal trail, and stormwater drainage structure. No water or wastewater improvements are included or necessary for the Agnes Street Extension. This project is being undertaken to promote or develop new or expanded business enterprises.
A ribbon cutting for the Agnes Street Extension was held on August 22nd, and Seton opened on November 12, 2019.
