18 Nov 2021
The recently constructed building at 921 Main St. in Downtown Bastrop not only represents a new hub of talent and creativity for the community, it also symbolizes the fruit of a longtime collaboration between the City Council, economic development center and chamber of commerce.
In 2016, Kathryn Nash, the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation's board chair, strolled through Downtown and stopped at the vacant lot at 921 Main St., which was in disrepair and closed to the public as city officials feared the shell of the building that burned down in that lot 13 years earlier could come tumbling down. But what Nash saw was an opportunity.
