Bastrop Economic Development Corporation to study wastewater needs in city's west side

The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a request by the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation to spend $94,300 to contract a public utility company to conduct a feasibility wastewater study on the western stretches of the city. 

The study will evaluate the existing wastewater infrastructure in Bastrop’s western extraterritorial jurisdiction which surrounds Texas 71. The corporation decided to base the study on this area because it’s growing to become more commercialized and attractive to new residents, said BEDC interim Director Genora Young.

“We all know that development is moving this way, to this community,” Young said. “And generally, what I’ve seen in 25 years is that the communities that do these types of studies — that look at the potential growth coming to them and prepare for the future, which is what a feasibility study helps you understand — those communities have a tendency to be more successful since they prepared.”
