Bastrop EDC hires Genora Young as interim director; search underway for full-time head

The Bastrop Economic Development Corporation on May 4 hired Genora Young as its interim director after the corporation’s board two months earlier fired its chief executive officer without cause. The board on Monday ratified Young’s employment contract at its regular meeting.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Genora stepping in to lead the corporation’s efforts aimed at job creation and economic prosperity for our community during this critical time,” board chair Kathryn Nash said in a statement. “We have a number of active projects that will benefit significantly from her experience as we begin the search for someone to fill the director role long-term.”

Young is a certified professional community/economic developer and business retention expansion professional with more than 25 years of economic development experience, the corporation said in its May 12 announcement of Young’s hiring.
