Bastrop wins three Texas Downtown Association awards

For Rebecca Gleason, the best possible boon to Downtown Bastrop’s economic success is making people aware it exists.

Gleason, Bastrop’s Main Street manager, wants people to know more about the small businesses populating Downtown — an economic district created nearly 15 years ago, and the responsibility Bastrop residents have to support these businesses.

Earning statewide praise and recognition for the businesses and programs in Downtown Bastrop is an added bonus, one the city received recently after winning three Texas Downtown Association (TDA) President Awards for 2020.

“Bastrop is a magical place and I think our Downtown really is the fabric of our community,” Gleason said.

Established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality, the TDA is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents a wide range of towns, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, local organizations, small businesses and individuals.
