FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

600 high school juniors and seniors expected to attend

BASTROP, Texas (April 11, 2019) – At Youth Career Day 2019, representatives from Bastrop-area companies will meet directly with local high school juniors and seniors to offer valuable career advice. Participating schools include Bastrop High School, Cedar Creek High School and Colorado River Collegiate Academy. Youth Career Day takes place from 9 a.m.-noon April 12 at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Performing Arts Center, located at 1401 Cedar St. in Bastrop.

In previous years, participating companies and organizations included representatives from the retail, banking, and biotechnology industries, and local governmental departments. Organizers expect similar representation this year. Again, students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from electrical, auto mechanics, plumbing, welding and HVAC industries.

“Workforce development is central to our mission to bring primary businesses and jobs to Bastrop and Youth Career Day helps us to meet this goal. The job fair portion offers local companies the opportunity to build a pipeline of talent right here in the Bastrop area,” Bastrop Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) Executive Director Mike Kamerlander said.

In addition to the BEDC, other organizers include the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, Bastrop Independent School District, City of Bastrop, and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area.

“In 2014, we all came together with one goal and that was to meet our students where they are. We wanted students to be able to interact directly with our area’s employers. This is an opportunity to talk shop, learn tips of the trade and get an idea of what it takes to be successful in a certain field,” BEDC Project Manager and Education Workforce Coordinator Jean Riemenschneider said.
