BEDC Receives Economic Excellence Recognition at 2020 TEDC Winter Conference

4 Mar 2020

The Bastrop Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is pleased to announce that we have once again received Economic Excellence Recognition from the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC).

This award is given only to economic development organizations that meet certain criteria for professionalism and benchmarks set in their industry. The BEDC was one of 53 organizations to receive this award from TEDC. One of those benchmarks and criteria requires an organization to adopt and implement a strategic plan. On January 15, 2020 the BEDC and the City of Bastrop held a joint public meeting to implement the BEDC’s strategic plan for business growth and retention within the City.

The BEDC held a strategic summit and retreat on January 27, 2020 to prioritize organizational needs and goals. These goals include providing up to $50,000 per year in grants to three deserving local businesses wishing to expand or improve. The BEDC is improving their ability to market the city to businesses by revamping its website and developing a digital media advertising campaign. Both the website and the campaign are set for launch in April 2020.

The BEDC is working in partnership with the City, Bastrop County Tourism & Economic Development, the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce and Visit Bastrop to develop and brand “Film Bastrop”. Film Bastrop is a joint partnership to bring filming studios to Bastrop and to make Bastrop “film friendly”. Film Bastrop is set for launch on March 13, 2020 at 8pm at the annual SXSW “Media ATX Signal” festival event co-hosted by actor Zachary Levi who films in Bastrop.

We hope to continue to exceed the benchmarks set in our industry and the TEDC, and continue to grow the next frontier of Central Texas with a business and film friendly Bastrosphere.
