Bastrop breaks ground on Main Street rehab project

The city of Bastrop held a groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 14 at Ferry Park for the Main Street Rehabilitation Project, which will improve the roadway and its sidewalks downtown.
The project is aimed at improving sidewalks along Main Street from Farm to Chestnut streets, as well as from Spring to Water streets. The roadway will also be resurfaced from Spring to Water streets, officials said.
The Main Street improvements include installing street trees, widening the walkways, installing new streetlights and providing a planting strip. The Main Street block between Farm and Spring streets will have 15.5-foot lanes with 9 feet for parallel parking on both sides of the road. From Spring to Pine streets, Main Street’s lane widths will be 11 feet, with 9-foot spaces remaining on both sides of the road for parallel parking. From Pine to Austin streets, Main Street’s lane widths will be 10 feet, with 8 feet allotted for parallel parking on one side of the road.
The project is expected to wrap up in late summer with landscaping installation occurring in early fall.
