Summer is upon Texas, and the community of Bastrop is gearing up for its many splendid recreation activities. Whether residents are looking for summer recreational programs, water adventures, hiking trails, or indoor fun, Bastrop is sure to provide plenty of opportunities for fun.

Nestled right on the Colorado River, Bastrop offers some of the most unique outdoor recreation opportunities in the Greater Austin metropolitan area. On the banks of the Colorado River in Bastrop are Bob Bryant Park and Fisherman’s Park. Both parks are equipped with fishing docks, expansive nature trails, and boat ramps, and are also known for wildlife encounters. When fishing, visitors might spot the state fish, the Guadalupe Bass, or while bird watching, visitors might spot a Great Blue Heron or Red-Shouldered Hawk. In addition to the wildlife and natural scenery, the Colorado River offers residents a rich variety of water sports, including tubing, kayaking, and boating.

The Bastrop Area Offers Terrific Tubing; River Recreation Reimagined

As many of our residents know, our region gets quite warm during the summer-- but the heat has made watersports uniquely enjoyable throughout our broader community. Throughout the summer here in Bastrop, many of our residents can be found enjoying the water.

Water recreation can be found in several locations, with the choice of several outfitters. For those looking for a full day paddle boarding or kayaking trip, The El Camino Real Paddling Trail is an ideal spot for water adventuring. To honor this local staple, Bastrop will host the Standing Up Paddleboards (SUP) El Camino Real race Aug 11-12th, 2023. If visitors are looking for a guided experience, Bastrop has plenty of outfitters to help residents roll down the river. Bastrop River Company, for example, provides guided canoeing and paddling trips, with unique adventures like moonlight kayaking tours and river camping trips.

Many even reserve a whole weekend for watersporting adventures, with camping trips out to state parks. While Bastrop offers plenty of traditional camping, recent developments have provided different ways to experience camping. In 2021, Lake Bastrop North Shore State Park added safari style tent cabins. Providing a hassle free camping experience, the cabins offer a grill, a private restroom, and several comforts in the midst of the natural wilderness. If you’re planning on spending the day on the water with family or friends, renting one of the new cabins out in the state park is sure to provide an unforgettable experience.
